Information and education: the voice makes sure it lands
A voice for an animation has to serve the purpose of the video and strengthen its effect. In public information films, e-learning, infomercials, instructional videos, explainer videos and explanimations, it is crucial that the message comes across clearly.
Making a complex story easy to follow starts with the script. I read the whole text first, so I know where it is going. That way the stress falls right not only within each sentence, but across the whole story: what is new gets the emphasis, what the viewer already knows does not. And the viewer stays with you, even through a longer explanation.

What kind of videos
- Explainer videos and explanimations: a product, service or website made clear in a few minutes. For example the explanimation for insurer Ditzo, made by In60Seconds, and the explainer video about Paco for KidsKonnect.
- Public information: calm and clear, so everyone can follow it. Like the animation for Pathologie Friesland, made by KREFT video & animatie, and the instructional video about MijnOverheid for the Dutch government.
- Animations with character: sometimes the voice can bring more colour. Like the cheerful animation in which RSG Magister Alvinus, a secondary school in Sneek, introduces itself to new pupils, and the videos for the Mauritshuis about Girl with a Pearl Earring and other works.
- E-learning and instruction: modules and instructional videos in which the viewer learns something step by step. A steady pace and consistent pronunciation of technical terms make all the difference here.
How I work
- Preparation: send the final script, and the animation or storyboard if you have it. Then I know where the emphasis should go and how much room each scene has.
- Pronunciation: we go over difficult names, technical terms and abbreviations beforehand. If you like, you can use the free ScriptChecker for the briefing.
- Recording: I record most of my work in my own studio. If you want to listen in, you can do so live with remote direction.
- Delivery: as a WAV file (24 bit, 48 kHz) as standard, in most cases within 24 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Do you record to picture, or does the voice come first?
Both are possible. If the animation is finished, I record to picture, so every line lands on the right scene. If the animation is still in progress, I deliver the voice first and the studio animates to it.
How long can the script for my explainer video be?
For an explainer video, count on roughly 120 to 130 Dutch words per minute: a little calmer than in a commercial, so the viewer can follow the explanation. The ScriptChecker shows you right away roughly how long your text will take.
Can you do a character voice?
Yes. For animations with a character, I adapt my voice and performance to the role. Listen to the character demo on the homepage.
What does a voice for an animation cost?
For explainer and information videos on your own website or social media, I work with fixed prices based on the number of words. If the video is promoted with paid media or broadcast on TV, a buyout is added. You will find everything on the rates page.
